Every Home Has a Space That Could Be Something Extraordinary.

Custom design and construction coordination for man-caves, collector garages, wine cellars, home theaters, and specialty rooms — with epoxy surfaces built right into the plan from day one. Serving Billings, MT and surrounding areas.

Most rooms in a home serve a function. A kitchen feeds people. A bedroom rests them. A living room gathers them.

But some rooms do something different. They reflect who you are.

The garage that becomes a showroom for the cars you've spent a lifetime collecting. The basement that becomes a wine cellar worthy of the bottles you've been aging for twenty years. The media room that becomes the destination for every game night, movie night, and fight night your family looks forward to all week.

These aren't just renovations. They're transformations — and they deserve to be designed and built with the same intention that went into collecting those cars, curating that wine, or building that family.

My name is David Hufstedler. I'm a licensed contractor, architectural draftsman, and epoxy specialist with over a decade of design experience and four years of hands-on custom surface work. I offer something most designers and most contractors can't — a single point of contact who handles your project from the initial design concept all the way through to the finished epoxy floor, bar top, or custom surface that ties the whole room together.

You bring the vision. I bring the blueprint, the plan, and the people to make it real.

Specialty Spaces I Design & Build

Man-Caves and Collector's Garages

The ultimate personal space — and one of the most requested specialty rooms in the Billings area. Whether you're housing a car collection, building the ultimate sports bar, or creating a workshop that reflects decades of passion, a well-designed man-cave starts with a plan that thinks through every detail before a single wall goes up.

I design the layout, specify the finishes, coordinate the construction, and personally install the epoxy floor that anchors the whole space. A metallic epoxy floor in a collector's garage isn't just a surface — it's the foundation the whole room is built around. Custom bar tops, wall panels, and statement pieces are all part of the conversation from day one.

Wine Cellars & Tasting Rooms

A wine cellar is one of the most personal investments a homeowner can make — and one of the most technically specific spaces to design correctly. Temperature control, humidity, lighting, racking layout, and tasting area flow all need to work together before a single bottle goes on the shelf.

I design wine cellars that are as functional as they are beautiful — spaces where the collection is protected, accessible, and displayed in a way that does justice to what's inside. Custom epoxy floors and surfaces complete the aesthetic, giving the space the kind of refined finish that matches the quality of what it houses.

Whether you're converting an existing basement space or building a dedicated cellar from the ground up, I coordinate the full project — design through construction — so you have one person to call from start to finish.

Home Theaters & Media Rooms

A home theater is more than a big TV and some recliners. The best ones are designed spaces — where acoustics, lighting, seating layout, and finishes all work together to create an experience that makes every movie night feel like an event.

I design media rooms and home theaters that balance function with atmosphere — rooms that are genuinely immersive, built to your family's habits and entertainment style, and finished with the kind of custom surfaces that make them feel intentional rather than assembled. Epoxy accent walls, custom flooring, and built-in design elements are all on the table.

With over a decade of architectural drafting experience and an Associate's degree in Drafting and Design from Montana State University Billings, I design new homes and additions for clients across the Billings area. From full home plans to garage additions, basement conversions, and structural modifications — I produce construction-ready drawings that your contractor can build from.

For clients who want to incorporate specialty spaces into a new build or addition — a wine cellar in the basement, a man-cave above the garage, a dedicated media room — designing it in from the beginning is always more cost-effective and better executed than retrofitting later.

From Vision to Finished Space — How the Process Works

  •  Step 1 — Design consultation. We start with a conversation about the space — what you want it to feel like, how you'll use it, what's most important to you. I listen first. No assumptions, no templates, no catalog solutions.
  •  Step 2 — Design concept & plan. Based on our conversation, I develop a design concept for your space — layout, finishes, materials, and flow. For projects requiring construction drawings, I produce full architectural plans. For specialty room projects, I develop detailed design specifications your contractor can work from.
  •  Step 3 — Construction coordination. I work with your existing contractor or bring in trusted subcontractors from my network to execute the build. You have one point of contact throughout — me. No juggling multiple trades, no gaps in communication, no finger-pointing when something needs to be resolved.
  •  Step 4 — Epoxy surfaces. The floors, bar tops, wall panels, and custom surfaces are installed by me personally as part of the project scope — not added as an afterthought. Because they're designed in from the beginning, they integrate seamlessly with the rest of the space.
  •  Step 5 — Final walkthrough. We walk through the finished space together before I consider the project complete. Every detail is right, or we make it right.

Why One Point of Contact Changes Everything

Most specialty room projects involve at least three separate relationships — a designer, a general contractor, and various trade subcontractors. Each one has their own schedule, their own priorities, and their own version of what the finished space should look like. Gaps between them are where projects go over budget, over schedule, and under-deliver.

When you work with Home and Castle Designs, there is one person responsible for the design, the coordination, and the custom surfaces that finish the space. That person is me — and my name is on the result.

This isn't a franchise. It isn't a company with a sales team and a crew you've never met. It's a craftsman with a decade of design experience, four years of epoxy work, and a direct personal stake in making sure your space turns out exactly the way you imagined it.
